Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, has charged that the All Progressives Congress utilized misinformation to win the general election in 2015.
According to Naija News, Okonkwo claimed that the APC’s campaign against former president Goodluck Jonathan was based on persistent public criticism and derogatory messaging, which finally led to Jonathan’s downfall.
In a post on his 𝕏 handle, Okonkwo made the assertions.
In the run-up to the 2015 presidential election, Jonathan was repeatedly attacked, according to Okonkwo.
One party that disseminates propaganda is the All Progressives Congress (APC). Propaganda helped it seize power in 2015, he wrote.
Throughout the campaign, he said, Jonathan was depicted negatively by the then-opposition party.
In 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held the office of President of Nigeria. Name-calling led to his removal from office, according to Okonkwo.
The former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, was allegedly heavily involved in the APC’s media campaign at the time, according to the ADC chieftain.
“This propaganda effort was being led at the time by Lai Mohammed, Bola Tinubu’s public relations officer,” he continued.
According to Okonkwo, Jonathan was frequently chastised for his administration’s decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy as well as for the instability in the Northeast.
He claims that the previous president’s political rivals called him “clueless, corrupt, insensitive, and incompetent.”
Because he was unable to manage the security issues in the Northeast, he was rejected. He received a lot of flak for eliminating the fuel subsidy. He eventually lost patience with the derogatory remarks, according to Okonkwo.
Okonkwo praised Jonathan for his tolerance and dedication to democratic values in spite of the criticism he received.
He said that the former president did not victimize political rivals or repress the opposition by using state authority.
He stated, “Jonathan was really fair; he didn’t target his political rivals for unfair treatment or go after the APC to eliminate them.”
Additionally, Okonkwo brought up Jonathan’s frequently mentioned stance from the 2015 election.
“He would rather say that ‘no politician’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian,'” he said.
Even before the final results were formally announced, Okonkwo claims that Jonathan accepted the election’s outcome and congratulated his rival, Muhammadu Buhari.
