Marc Cucurella, a Spain international who signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid from Chelsea, will remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.
The 27-year-old defender became Madrid’s first summer transfer window acquisition when the Spanish powerhouses revealed on Sunday that a deal had been completed with Chelsea for his transfer.
The club released a statement earlier today, June 15, saying, “Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
According to sources, Madrid would pay an initial €55 million plus a further €5 million in possible add-ons, even though neither team revealed the transfer fee.
Cucurella’s three-year tenure at Stamford Bridge came to an end when Chelsea confirmed his exit.
Chelsea announced that “Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid.”
“Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements,” the club continued.
“As he embarks on the next phase of his career, we wish him every success.”
Cucurella made 163 appearances for Chelsea after joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022. He assisted the team in winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League while he was living in West London.
In addition, the defender became Spain’s starting left-back and was a member of the team that won the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
His transfer to Madrid coincides with the arrival of JosĂ© Mourinho as the team’s new manager, and it has been reported that the Portuguese coach played a key role in sealing the deal.
Cucurella is presently in the United States with the Spain team in preparation for their opening World Cup match against Cabo Verde. He will now focus on the competition before starting the next phase of his career in Madrid.
Prior to stints at Eibar, Getafe, Brighton, and Chelsea, the Catalan-born defender started his career at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia program.
