After a dominant performance in Udinese Calcio’s 3-0 victory over AC Milan, Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was chosen in the Serie A Team of the Week.
Among the six goalkeepers who achieved shutouts in the round, Maduka Okoye, 26, was selected for gameweek 32 after maintaining a clean sheet in a calm performance. His confident presence between the posts contributed to Udinese’s resounding victory.
Along with colleagues Arthur Atta and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Robin Gosens, Rafael Obrador, Denzel Dumfries, Scott McTominay, Riccardo Orsolini, Marcus Thuram, Sebastiano Esposito, and Donyell Malen, Okoye is included in the weekly XI.
This season, his influence has grown, as seen by the acknowledgment. For the first time since joining Udinese in 2023, Okoye has now maintained eight clean sheets in 24 league games, including three straight shutouts.
His comeback to the Super Eagles of Nigeria squad following his exclusion from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad has coincided with his club form. Before being sidelined for the 2-2 draw against Jordan due to a thigh injury, he played in the March international window during a 2-1 friendly victory over Iran in Antalya.
Okoye is still committed to solidifying his position on the national team in spite of the setback.
Okoye stated on Udinese Tonight, the club’s official website, “I was so happy to be called up to the national team.” It’s significant to me both personally and as a player. I would like to come back numerous times.
Having made his debut against Brazil in 2019, Okoye currently has 19 caps and is up against fierce competition for the starting position. Stanley Nwabali is anticipated to resume regular club action, while Arthur Okonkwo is making an impression at Wrexham AFC.
