“Retrace Your Steps”: ACF Alerts INEC and Tinubu’s Government to the Dangers of the 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the administration of President Bola Tinubu have been cautioned by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) not to take any actions that could endanger the upcoming election.

According to Naija News, T. A. Muhammad-Baba, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (AFC), voiced concerns about recent developments in the nation’s electoral process in an interview with Leadership Newspaper. He cited the proposed voter revalidation exercise and the INEC’s derecognization of David Mark’s leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), both of which could jeopardize democratic stability.

Muhammad-Baba emphasized that such actions run the risk of creating confusion ahead of the upcoming general elections and could undermine public trust in the voting system.

He also cautioned that Nigeria is already dealing with growing economic difficulties and insecurity, emphasizing that adding political unrest at this moment could make matters worse.

The spokesperson for the ACF urged the federal government, INEC, and other relevant political players to change their ways and uphold democratic values.

“Every action taken by INEC or the political authorities appears to be jeopardizing the 2027 election,” he stated. It’s not too late, and we aim to urge the government, INEC, and everyone else involved to change their ways and uphold democratic values.

If not, all of these indicators point to a crisis that is detrimental to the nation. We’ve had enough. We already have enough issues with insecurity. Economic challenges are already a problem for us.
