In response to criticism on her choice to align with the Labour Party, Betty Akeredolu said, “I Will Not Apologize.”

Betty, the late former governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu’s widow, has responded to criticism on her choice to join the Labour Party (LP) in advance of the 2027 election.

According to Naija News, Betty, who is running for the Imo East senatorial seat, claimed in an Instagram post that she has been the target of assaults and ridicule because of her choice.

Betty, whose late husband belonged to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that she has selected a platform that acknowledges women in leadership roles and shows inclusivity.

Betty claims that purpose, people, and advancement are more important to her than party devotion.

Despite residing in Ondo State, Betty emphasized that she is the daughter of Emeabiam in Owerri West Local Government, Imo State.

“I will not apologize for choosing purpose over politics,” the message stated.

“I’ve witnessed support, criticism, and even insults over the past 24 hours due to my choice to endorse the #LabourParty Nigeria in my candidacy for the Imo East Senatorial seat.

“Let me be clear. I am the daughter of Emeabiam from Imo State’s Owerri-West Local Government. That is who I am, where I come from, and what I have to do.
Yes, I have lived and worked in #OndoState, but Nigeria needs to get beyond the notion that service is limited by location.

I have selected a platform that acknowledges women in leadership and represents inclusivity.

“Party loyalty is not at issue here. It has to do with progress, people, and purpose. I’m concentrated. I’m ready. And I’m determined to make a significant difference.

“Biko, what is more important to you, party or advancement?
