China Responds to Mojtaba Khamenei’s Selection as Iran’s New Leader

China warned against any attempts to harm Mojtaba Khamenei on Monday, stating that Iran’s decision to name him as its new supreme leader after his father passed away was an internal matter.

The declaration was made in the midst of heightened tensions following Israel’s military’s promise to attack any successor to former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was murdered during the initial round of combined Israeli and American airstrikes against Iran.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, stated during a press conference on Monday that Iran’s constitutional procedures were followed in making the leadership choice.

“Iran’s constitution served as the basis for its decision to appoint the younger Khamenei,” he stated.

Beijing is against any attempt by foreign nations to meddle in Iran’s domestic affairs, Guo continued.

“Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity should be respected, and China opposes interference in other countries’ internal affairs under any pretext,” he declared.

The Israeli military had previously warned that any Ali Khamenei successor might also be a target in the current conflict.

More over a week ago, the United States and Israel carried out a series of synchronized airstrikes that assassinated the former Iranian leader.

Israel and the US have been attacking Iranian locations with aircraft in recent days.
