The winners of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections on February 21, 2026, received certificates of return on Wednesday from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Naija News, Mallam Aminu Idris, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), gave the presentation.

Christopher Maikalangu, the recently re-elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and his vice, Mohammed Nadabo, were among those who received diplomas.

Idris praised the winners during his speech, characterizing the exercise as the official culmination of an effective and open democratic process.

According to the REC, 62 council members from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as the six chairmen of the regional councils and their deputies received certificates.

He tasked them with using their position for the benefit of the populace.

“On behalf of the Commission, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on your electoral achievement. I implore you to interpret your mandates as an obligation to the people.

“The people’s faith in you is demonstrated by your election. The REC stated, “I urge you to embrace your mandate with a sense of duty, working tirelessly to solve the situation of your constituents.”

Additionally, he thanked all political parties and the Nigeria Police Force for their contributions to a free and fair election.
