Nigerians are urged by the Lagos Islamic Group to refrain from protesting amid tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Nigerians have been advised by the League of Imams in Lagos State to abstain from demonstrations that would disturb the peace, stressing that now is a time for introspection and prayer rather than protests.

The appeal comes after protests in several regions of the nation, including Lagos, against the recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which are said to have killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and increased tensions around the world.

During the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir performance on Tuesday night at Lagos House in Ikeja, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Chief Missioner of the Ansarudeen Society, made the appeal on behalf of the guild.

This is not a moment for protest and demonstration; rather, it is a time to pray and participate in peace. Insults are not appropriate at this time. Upheavals are not appropriate at this moment. It’s a time for somber contemplation,” he remarked.

Ahmad acknowledged Nigeria’s susceptibility to international crises, pointed to possible economic repercussions, such as increased fuel prices, and warned that social unrest may make matters worse.

“We are not happy that our brothers and fellow humans have been attacked on a daily basis, but we should not be part of the problem if we cannot be part of the solution,” he continued. Don’t participate in a protest that you don’t comprehend. Recall the lessons learned from #EndSARS. Avoid causing disturbance.

Ahmad urged all clerics to use their platforms to preach against discontent and disaffection, encouraging people to put peace first and foster harmony throughout the nation.
