Ebelechukwu Enedah, Sophia Momodu’s attorney in the current custody battle with musician Davido over their daughter Imade, has claimed N1 billion in damages from Davido due to allegations of harassment, cyberbullying, and life-threatening threats.
Enedah accused Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, of defamatory behavior that purportedly damaged her professional reputation and exposed her to online threats in a letter dated February 24 and delivered through her legal agents.
“Your actions have had a disastrous overall impact. The letter states: “As a direct and immediate result of your actions, our client, a partner at PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors, a lawyer with over twenty (20) years of post-call experience and a professional of impeccable standing, has suffered severe damage to her professional reputation, acute emotional distress, well-founded fear for her own life and the lives of her family members, and tangible harm to her professional practice.”
“To publicly label a lawyer of her caliber as ‘the worst lawyer ever’ is not the expression of grievance,” the statement continued. Counsel is the subject of this intentional and malevolent attempt of reputational destruction because she performed her professional duties competently and fearlessly.
Enedah also maintained that issues pertaining to a minor’s welfare and custody shouldn’t be made into a public spectacle.
“It is equally settled that proceedings concerning the custody and welfare of a minor are not fit for public commentary, sensationalism, or social media spectacle,” the letter states.
Following a contentious court hearing in February over Davido and Momodu’s custody issue, there was uproar.
The artist said on social media that he was abandoning his custody request shortly after the proceedings.
Davido had shared her identity online and accused the attorney of making reference to his late kid during the proceedings, calling it a “low blow.”
However, while the case is still pending in court, Enedah insisted that the singer immediately refrain from making any public remarks about her or the legal proceedings.
“Immediately cease and desist from any further direct or indirect commentary, publications, posts, or statements (including via affiliates or cohorts) relating to this matter, our client, opposing counsel, or the proceedings while the suit remains sub judice,” the letter continued.
Additionally, she called for a retraction and public apologies in at least two highly read national publications as well as on the singer’s verified social media accounts.
Additionally, the attorney asked Davido to instruct his associates and supporters to refrain from intimidation, threats, or harassment.
The letter threatened to take legal action at the Lagos State High Court to enforce the claims, including the N1 billion compensation demanded, if she did not comply with the requests within seven days.
