
Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has been appointed as Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Special Advisor on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The Edo State Government’s secretary, Umar Musa Ikhilor, issued a statement to Naija News on Thursday that revealed this information.
“Mrs. Mercy Johnson-Okojie is a successful Nigerian actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist,” the statement said. She has appeared in more than 200 films over the course of her nearly two-decade career, making her one of Nollywood’s most renowned celebrities. She has received multiple honors and accolades for her exceptional contributions to the Nigerian film industry, including distinction at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and other esteemed events.
In addition to her accomplishments in the entertainment sector, Mrs. Johnson-Okojie is well-known for her activism and humanitarian efforts. She has supported initiatives centered on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education assistance, and healthcare outreach through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation. She has continuously used her position to advance civic engagement, social responsibility, and community growth.
It further stated that Mrs. Johnson-Okojie will use her extensive public influence, communication skills, and grassroots reach in her new position as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy to increase public participation in government policies and initiatives.
The statement further said, “This appointment demonstrates the Governor’s dedication to leveraging the experience, reputation, and goodwill of notable Nigerians to further the administration’s vision for a prosperous and united Edo State.”
