In a coordinated operation between Kano and Katsina, troops free eight kidnapped wedding guests.

Eight of the ten people kidnapped by suspected terrorists at a wedding location in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, on Wednesday have been freed by troops from the Nigerian Army’s 3 Brigade.

An unspecified number of gunmen allegedly wearing military camouflage broke into the event and took the victims away, a reliable source from Army Headquarters informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

After receiving the distress signal, he added, troops stationed in an ambush position along the Yankwada River line quickly moved to the general area and made contact with the escaping attackers at Garu Village in neighboring Katsina State.

He claims that before contact was broken, the bandits were followed by the troops all the way to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis. The other two victims are still being sought after and rescued, but eight of the kidnapped girls were successfully rescued during the operation and are now back with their families.

According to the authorities, efforts to guarantee the safe return of the remaining victims and stop additional attacks have continued in the general vicinity. (NAN)
