The January 2026 Operational operation Factsheet, published by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), provides information on the operation of grid-connected power facilities throughout the nation.
The report states that throughout the month, Nigeria’s power plants recorded a Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of 36%, meaning that, of the 13,625 MW of installed capacity in the country, an average of 4,901 MW were available for dispatch.
A robust Average Load Factor of 90% was also displayed in the factsheet, indicating that around 4,421 megawatt-hours per hour (MWh/h) of the available generation capacity was efficiently used on the national grid.
Citing their high availability and effective utilization levels, NERC named Ihovbor Power Plant (Unit 2), Kainji Power Plant (Unit 1), and Jebba Power Plant (Unit 1) the top energy producers for the time period.
According to the commission, the operational performance data helps well-informed decision-making aimed at enhancing power generation, sustainability, and dependability and offers important insights into the current health of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Noting that performance metrics are crucial in determining how Nigeria would supply energy in the future, NERC advised the public and stakeholders to keep up with industry advancements.
