A suspect has been detained by the Kebbi Police Command for reportedly scamming 175 job seekers under the guise of obtaining school feeding jobs for them.
This was revealed in a statement on Monday in Birnin Kebbi by SP Bashir Usman, the Command spokesperson.
According to Usman, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect fraudulently claimed to have the power to arrange jobs in elementary and secondary schools that were authorized by the government.
He clarified that the victims were persuaded to pay N30,000 each as “processing fees” for the alleged jobs while acting in good faith.
He said that additional inquiry revealed that the culprit, who lived in Birnin Kebbi’s KCC neighborhood, had deceitfully taken N5.2 million from the victims.
Usman’s advertisements further said that there were no such job openings and that the suspect was not authorized by any government organization to recruit on its behalf.
He stated that the suspect was being held by the police while the investigation was conducted, with the intention of prosecuting him in court when it was finished.
Usman cautioned the people to exercise caution and steer clear of fake employment programs.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led law enforcement, promising to keep making arrests and prosecuting criminals in compliance with the law. (NAN)
