As investigations into her claim of sexual assault proceed, the Ogun State Police Command has revealed that a TikTok user named Mirabel is presently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s public relations officer, revealed this.
Babaseyi claimed that earlier in the week, after her viral videos describing the alleged incident generated intense online reactions, the authorities made touch with the content producer.
Before learning that the event allegedly took place in Ogijo, a border hamlet between Ogun and Lagos states, he said, officers first located her in the Ibafo region.
She was brought to the hospital for a medical examination after meeting with the DPO in Ibafo. We made sure the investigation went forward even though she wasn’t as steady as was required.
She is receiving the proper care in the intensive care unit as we speak. Right now, we are more concerned about her health. We can now proceed with our investigations and obtain the required information once she is stable,” Babaseyi stated.
He emphasized that once she is medically well enough to provide a thorough account, detectives would gather further information.
On social media, the issue has sparked heated discussion, with some users casting doubt on the veracity of her statements.
In response, the police spokesperson cautioned the public against making hasty judgments.
We caution against making snap judgments based on feelings. He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, saying, “We are looking into this and will use the evidence to draw a logical conclusion.”
He acknowledged that certain people had received invitations, but he would not elaborate, stating that prudence was required.
Additionally, Babaseyi denied internet rumors that Mirabel had been taken into custody.
“The police did not take her into custody. We are looking into the case that she reported. “Nothing like her arrest occurred,” he explained.
He went on to say that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted and that there would be legal repercussions for any fraudulent reporting that was proven.
“The offender will be taken into custody and face the proper charges in court if the claim is shown to be accurate. If not, providing misleading information is likewise covered by the law,” he stated.
An incident sparks an internet campaign.
After sharing tearful videos on Monday, Mirabel went viral, claiming she was attacked in her apartment on February 15.
She said an intruder broke in, attacked her, and then reached out to her on social media.
Before jurisdiction was transferred to the Ogun State Police Command, where the crime is said to have taken place, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency first handled the case in response to the viral posts and the #StopRapingWomen campaign.
The police stated that investigations are still ongoing and reaffirmed that Mirabel’s rehabilitation and a comprehensive, fact-based investigation into the claims are the top priorities right now.
