Igor Thiago, a striker for Brentford, became the first Brazilian to win the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award twice in January, setting a Premier League record.
The 24-year-old Igor Thiago, who also won the award in November 2025, carried on his amazing play into the new year and helped Brentford compete for a top-six finish. His performances throughout January were pivotal in the Bees’ important wins over Sunderland and Everton.
In those two games, Igor Thiago scored all five of his league goals for the month. He scored a brace against Sunderland after scoring a clinical hat-trick against Everton.
The competition for the Coca-Cola Golden Boot has also heated up as a result of Thiago’s surge in front of goal, as he is getting closer to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Importantly, Thiago also achieved a long-standing milestone in January. The Brazilian surpassed the previous record of 15 goals, becoming the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League season.
The striker signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with Brentford on the same day that the award was given, committing to the team for the long run.
After being given the honor, Thiago spoke to Brentford’s official website, expressing both joy and aspiration.
On Brentford’s website, Thiago stated, “I asked the club how many Brentford players have won this, and they told me that nobody had received this trophy before me.”
I’m thrilled to have won it twice already, and I hope to win more in the future!
“I also want to express my gratitude to all of the players and staff for their assistance and support on the field.”
