The Football Association said Thursday that Thomas Tuchel has agreed to a new deal that will keep him as head coach of the England national football team until the conclusion of Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland.
After being officially named as Gareth Southgate’s successor in October 2024, Tuchel has led England to an undefeated qualifying run to the World Cup in North America this year, winning all eight of their group matches under the German manager.
The 52-year-old former Chelsea manager, whose previous contract with the national team ended at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, expressed his happiness and pride at being able to continue with England.
Everyone knows that I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my coaches and players thus far, and I am eager to guide them to the World Cup.
“This is a fantastic opportunity, and we will do everything in our power to honor the nation.”
The new deal with Tuchel, according to the FA, would give the World Cup “clarity and full focus.”
Even though the English powerhouses have seen an improvement in their performance under interim manager Michael Carrick, Tuchel was earlier hailed as a potential permanent replacement for fired former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.
However, Tuchel seems to have ruled out a move to Old Trafford after the World Cup by agreeing to a new England deal.
