After leading Atletico Madrid to a resounding 5–0 victory over Real Betis in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, Super Eagles talisman Ademola Lookman called his debut for the team a “dream start.”
The 28-year-old forward made an instant impression in Spain after recently completing a well-publicized transfer from Atalanta.
Just a few days after arriving, Lookman was thrust into the starting lineup. He assisted Antoine Griezmann and scored a spectacular goal in the 37th minute as Diego Simeone’s team easily advanced to the semi-finals.
After the final whistle, the Nigerian international told Sporty TV how happy he was with his performance and the welcoming atmosphere he had received at the club.
“Yeah, it’s been fantastic, coming here and getting a warm welcome from the team, staff, and everyone has been wonderful to me, so yeah, dream start.”

Lookman played a significant role in Atletico’s offensive play and often caused problems for the Betis defense during the match at the Estadio La Cartuja.
He credited his accomplishment to perseverance and consistency after considering his movement and contribution to the objectives.
Yes, without a doubt. I simply attempted to force them to run and to be dangerous during their times. Yes, simply keep doing it, keep creating the sets and movements, and strive to be risky.
“No, it goes without saying that I’m incredibly happy to be here, at such a unique club, and you know that this happiness and that feeling motivates me to work hard and perform, so the most important thing is to keep working hard, staying dedicated, and trying to be consistent every single day.”
“Happy to get my first goal and even happier with the win,” Lookman tweeted on Friday, expressing his pride at wearing the badge for the first time. “Aupa Atleti!”
