The Labour Party, chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman, has denounced what it called a phony X (formerly Twitter) account that went by the handle @NewsLp26689 and was registered under the name “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)”.
The handle fraudulently claims to be disseminating information to the public on behalf of the party, the party stated.
This was said in a statement sent to the Interim National Chairman in Abuja on Monday and signed by Senior Special Adviser (Media) Ken Asogwa.
He clarified that the aforementioned account was established in January 2026, not long after a Federal High Court ruling confirmed Senator Nenadi Usman’s appointment as the Labour Party’s Interim National Chairman.
For the sake of clarity, Asogwa stated, “The only known social media accounts for the Labour Party on Facebook and X that are not currently in use are as follows:
“Lord Party-Nig on Facebook has around 12,000* fans, while LabourPartyNG on X has about 839,000* followers.
“The Labour Party has formally written to the former leadership to turn over these official social media accounts in response to the recent Federal High Court ruling that upheld Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership of the party.
The party is still optimistic that this process will be resolved amicably and without violence. The public will be appropriately notified once the accounts have been entirely recovered or restored.
As a result, the Labour Party does not currently run any X or Facebook accounts for the purpose of informing the public.
“In the interim, the Office of the Interim National Chairman solely uses authorized press announcements to disseminate all official information.
The public will be suitably informed if this communication method changes.
The public is thus cautioned to ignore any material originating from the purported “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)” account, which has the handle @NewsLp26689. The account is satirical and has not been approved by the Labour Party’s leadership.
The party thanked the public, media, and party stakeholders for their participation in its operations.
