Tinubu’s approval of the Electoral Act modification is praised by a Lagos politician.

President Bola Tinubu has been praised by Mr. Setonji David, Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, for enacting the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday, David, who is the representative for Badagry Constituency II, stated as much.

According to NAN, President Tinubu signed the 2022 Electoral Act revisions into law on Wednesday after carefully observing discussions on the bill in the National Assembly.

“To the extent that there has been no confusion, no disenfranchisement of Nigerians, and that we are all going to see democracy flourish,” Tinubu praised the leadership of the national assembly for their excellent handling of the process.

The President claims that having lively brainstorming sessions devoted to national development, nation-building, and national stability is the essence of democracy.

David responded to the signing by saying that President Tinubu “signed the bill as a patriotic national leader.”

Additionally, he commended the 10th National Assembly for the novel features in the Electoral Act that corrected glaring flaws that had prevented the nation from holding genuine elections.

According to the congressman, the Act is now the nation’s new electoral legislation.

“Even if he disagrees with some of the bill’s provisions, it takes a guy who is dedicated to Nigeria’s welfare to sign it.

“The conduct of the general elections in 2027 and subsequent off-cycle elections would be in danger if the Electoral Act were not in effect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission and the nation were already tense due to the bill’s delays.

“A major step toward the conduct of credible elections in 2027 has been taken with the Electoral Act in place,” he stated.

David pointed out that in order to guarantee the best results in elections, INEC, the political parties, candidates, and other important players had a legal instrument to operate with.
