The Nigerian Police were commended by the Labour Party (LP) for their prompt action in clearing out suspected criminals who tried to enter its national secretariat on Tuesday evening.
This was said in a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Senator Nenadi Usman, the interim national chairperson of the LP, and special adviser on media Ken Asogwa.
He disclosed that the police are currently receiving helpful information from suspects who were arrested in relation to the event that could help identify their sponsors.
Asogwa stated, “The Party would like to notify the public that, thanks to the prompt action of the Nigerian Police, normalcy has now been restored at the Party Secretariat, even though we still appreciate our followers across the country for their vigilance during this period.
The Labour Party also wants to make it clear that it will no longer put up with acts of brigandage by its own members, especially those from the past leadership who allegedly tried to desecrate the Secretariat while it was dark.
“The Nigerian court’s ruling about the Party’s current leadership is unmistakable and explicit.
By legally recognizing Senators Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Labour Party, respectively, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has put this ruling into effect.
Nigeria is not a banana republic; it is a country with laws. It is recommended that those rogue elements within the Party who are determined to incite needless panic in the name of the Labour Party immediately stop.
Beyond the criminals who have already been taken into custody, the Labour Party urges law enforcement to target any criminal elements that are using the Party’s name to trick and mislead the public.
“The Party will no longer tolerate such criminality from any member, regardless of how highly placed, in the case of these charlatans who pretend to operate under the Party’s banner without the necessary authority.”
Recall that on Tuesday, the party’s national secretariat in Utako, Abuja, was formally taken over by the Usman-led interim National Working Committee (INWC).
