
ONITSHA — One of the foot soldiers of the Biafran war Lord and Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, High Chief Nathan Ofoma, a senior Biafran army veteran, has died.
High Chief Ofoma, who was born in 1945 and was from the Ezinifite community in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the ripe age of 80, following a brief illness. Under Ojukwu’s careful watch, he fought valiantly on the side of Biafra throughout the civil war, earning him the nickname “Abazoka.”
With the headquarters of his registered company, Ofoma and Sons Limited, located between the old Ogbunike Toll Gate and Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, close to the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, Ofoma was a major distributor of liquor to both the Nigerian Breweries Plc, Guinness Nigeria Limited, Interfact Breweries, and other respectable breweries throughout Nigeria until his death.
Newsmen in Onitsha were informed of his father’s passing by his eldest son, Sir Chinedu Ofoma, a Knight of St. Christopher, KSC in the Anglican Church, who also stated that burial plans would be revealed later following extensive family consultation.
According to condolence registers set up at his hometown of Ezinifite, his company’s headquarters, and his residential house in Omagba Phase 2, Onitsha, notable figures from Nigeria and the diaspora have been sending condolence letters in the meantime.
