NTA Birnin Kebbi staff protest low welfare, sparking outrage

At the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Birnin Kebbi station, tension is rising as staff members accuse Ali Garba, the recently hired general manager, of unfair treatment and disregarding employee welfare.

Employees are apparently only earning between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000 in allowances from NTA headquarters for special outside broadcasts and activities, according to a number of employees who spoke anonymously.

They said the circumstance had a part in a staff member collapsing during the just-finished fishing event. The employee was allegedly hurried to a patent medicine store rather than a hospital in order to save money.

Workers caution that if welfare is ignored much longer, staff health and safety may be in jeopardy. They are urging immediate action from NTA’s national headquarters.

“We give our best to the station, but our welfare is ignored,” a staff member bemoaned. Morale and productivity will suffer if this keeps up.

Workers are furious about the incident, and many believe that quick action is required to rebuild trust and guarantee that employees are treated fairly.
