Kwara Govt orders closure of college of education over insecurity

Citing deteriorating local security, the Kwara State Government has mandated the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, to close immediately.

The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology issued the directive in an internal memo dated January 20 with reference number MOTE/CE/VOL.II/227. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) saw the memo on Thursday.

The memo, which was issued by Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, instructed the institution’s management to close immediately in accordance with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s directive.

“The decision was part of the state government’s larger instruction to close all schools within the affected local government region, and it was made in response to mounting security risks around the institution.

The memo stated, “The measure is taken in the best interest of the safety and security of staff, students, and the surrounding community.”
