Due to the results being transmitted electronically, protesters storm the National Assembly.

The National Assembly in Abuja is heavily guarded as demonstrators assemble at the complex’s entrance, demanding that the election amendment bill include “real-time electronic transmission.”

Under the banner of the “Occupy National Assembly,” the protesters claimed that even though the upper house recently clarified that it did not reject the move, the Senate still needed to be clear in its provision for the electronic transmission of election results.

At the scene were representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.

As the protest got underway, members of civil society organizations, a few opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) members, and a few women’s organizations were at the complex’s entrance.

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential contender and human rights advocate, declared on Sunday that the National Opposition Movement would protest the “removal of electronic transmission of election results.”

Sowore called for Nigerians to mobilize in favor of the #OccupyNASS protest and claimed that the action was intended to undermine the legitimacy of next elections in a post on his verified X handle.

Details will be provided later.
