
The British defense attaché in Nigeria, Brig.-Gen. Tom Harper, and his German counterpart, Col. Boris Bovecamp, have reiterated their countries’ commitment to fighting terrorism in Nigeria.
This was announced Thursday by Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Media Information Officer Lt. Col. Sani Uba.
The attachés made the commitment on Wednesday in Maiduguri during a visit to the Joint Task Force (North East) headquarters for Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), according to Uba.
“The German and British defense attachés to Nigeria, Brig. Col. Boris Bovecamp and Tom Harper have reiterated their commitment to working together and supporting the war against insurgency and terrorism.
“The assurance was given on Wednesday during their historic visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri.”

He claimed that Harper emphasized Nigeria and the UK’s longstanding and deep regard for one another, as well as their shared dedication to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Harper also affirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to offering additional training support through the British Military Advisory Team (BMATT) and praised the Nigerian Armed Forces’ efforts to combat terrorism in the Northeast, especially through Operation HADIN KAI.
In a similar vein, Bovecamp stated that he was in the theater to investigate potential future areas of cooperation, particularly in the area of capacity building, as well as potential interventions through regional cooperation agreements to improve operational effectiveness and cooperation to combat terrorism.
Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of OPHK, praised the important roles played by German and British Defence Attachés in the fight against insurgency.
Abubakar emphasized the reciprocal advantages of the collaborations, pointing out that training programs have improved soldiers’ abilities and competency in addressing changing security threats in the Theater.
The commander outlined areas for future cooperation, such as equipment and logistics support in addition to technical experience.
