The discovery of a threatening letter purportedly dumped at the Ira market area, warning of an imminent terrorist attack, has caused new alarm among the inhabitants of the Ira, Inaja, and Aho communities in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Security agencies have reportedly called emergency operations meetings with local government authorities in response to the letter, which was allegedly discovered on Thursday morning and has caused alarm in the towns.
According to people with knowledge of the matter, the letter’s authors described themselves as the “NTA (Nigeria Terrorist Association)” and stated that they had moved from Kaiama Local Government Area to Oyun. They also stated that they planned to attack the communities “anytime soon.”
According to sources, the letter’s contents include the following: “No town or place that is scared to destroy us.” Prior to our raid, we conducted a search and collected information.
“We heard about this town IRA ‘You people strong, and have many Powerful men to face Our Organization,” the organization wrote, taunting the locals even more.
“Be ready for us at any time, any date,” the message continued, in a terrifying warning. expressing worry about your Oracle or our strength, we moved from Kaiama LG to Ira, Inaja, and Aho, with the town around us.
In the wake of the recent massacre in Kaiama Local Government Area’s Woro community, where at least 162 people were allegedly killed by suspected terrorists affiliated with Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), also known as Boko Haram, residents told SaharaReporters that the threat has unsettled the entire axis.
Men, women, and children were killed as gunmen launched a concerted evening attack on Woro on February 3, 2026. According to reports, the Chief Imam, a headmistress, a school principal, two of the Emir of Woro’s wives, several of his children, and returning students were among those slain.
Alhaji Saliu Bio Umar, the Emir, reportedly fled the scene and escaped.
Concerns regarding growing insurgent activity in Kwara State were raised by the attackers’ suspected affiliation with a Sadiku-led Boko Haram group that allegedly had operational linkages to terrorist networks in the Sahel.
Because of the forest roads that connect portions of Kwara to neighboring states, Ira, a border town that borders Ilemona, is deemed vulnerable. Inaja and Aho are situated westward along the same corridor.
According to military sources, in an effort to stop infiltration, the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operation Base in Ilemona has increased patrols throughout the areas that are at risk.
According to a source, the information has prepared all security services for a series of operational readiness meetings and future meetings with local government authorities.
According to reports, locals have been urged to exercise caution and notify security services of any unusual activity.
Authorities and security organizations in Kwara State had not yet released a formal statement explicitly addressing the purported NTA threat letter as of the time this report was filed.
Anxiety is still rising throughout the Oyun Local Government Area as villagers prepare for what many describe as an uncertain and terrifying wait, as memories of the Woro slaughter remain vivid.
