ABUJA: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised that it will be prepared for the general election in 2027, despite the apparent delay in passing the updated Electoral Act that is presently before the National Assembly.
As a result, the Commission declared that work on the election schedule and activities had been completed.
This was revealed on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan.
Amupitan acknowledged that the National Assembly has received INEC’s comments, but he also acknowledged that the timing of the parliamentarians’ passage of the electoral legislation may have an effect on some of the activities scheduled.
However, he stated that the commission is currently forced to rely on the current Act for its operations.
