Attack on the Kwara LG Headquarters by Suspected Terrorists

Intense gunfire broke out in the village when suspected terrorists launched a new attack on Share, the capital of Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Sunday.

According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, the highly armed attackers rushed the town, but local forest guards and Nigerian military personnel fiercely resisted their attempts to seize control of the area.

“The current state of affairs is really dire. Share town is being attacked by bandits, and there is a fierce gunfight. Soldiers and forest guards are putting up a fierce effort to drive them out,” a local stated.

The attack on Share occurred just hours after four inhabitants of the Kakafu hamlet in the state’s Patigi Local Government Area were purportedly kidnapped by militants in the early hours of Sunday.

According to local sources, the assailants broke into the neighborhood, fired intermittently, and then took the victims away to an unidentified location.

The kidnapping happened just twenty-four hours after another violent altercation along the Gamji Road checkpoint in Gbugbu, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The source said that on Saturday, security personnel and vigilantes at the checkpoint were ambushed by armed bandits.

At least one army officer was wounded after being shot in the leg during the bandits’ attack on the vigilantes and community guards at the checkpoint along Gamji Road. According to the source, a vigilante police was also struck and suffered a severe damage to his forehead.

According to reports, the wounded security guards were treated at a local hospital.

Residents bemoaned the recurring attacks, kidnappings, and ambushes that have occurred in the senatorial districts of Kwara North and Kwara South in recent months.
