Arriving in Ethiopia for the 39th AU conference is Shettima.

To represent President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, which is set for February 14–15, Vice-President Kashim Shettima has traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This was revealed in a statement released on Friday by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Yusuf Tuggar.

Amb. Berhanu Tsegaye, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Belete Mola, the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, welcomed the vice president when he arrived at Bole International Airport.

Tuggar, the head of the Nigerian embassy in Addis Ababa, and other high-ranking government representatives were also there to greet him.

According to Tuggar, Nigeria made notable institutional and diplomatic strides that strengthened its position as a leader in furthering Africa’s economic integration.

At the recently finished 48th Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, Tuggar spoke on the topics of peace, security, and democratic governance. He noted that the Council’s decision to give Nigeria a permanent seat on the Board of the African Central Bank was a key highlight of the conference.

He called this a historic event that highlights Nigeria’s strategic influence on the continent’s financial system.

He claims that the ruling also adds Nigeria to the Board of the African Monetary Institute’s Technical Convergence Committee, which served as a forerunner of the African Central Bank.

These developments, he said, confirmed Nigeria’s economic importance, technical prowess, and dedication to furthering Africa’s monetary integration objective.

According to him, the session saw the successful election of individuals nominated to the Peace and Security Council by the Economic Community of West African States, which includes Nigeria.

He claims that the result demonstrates the ECOWAS member nations’ strong unity and cohesion as well as their common dedication to promoting stability throughout the continent.

By hosting a Ministerial High-Level Panel Discussion on Regional Partnerships for Democracy, Tuggar continued, Nigeria also showed leadership in bolstering democratic government.

Ministers, high-ranking officials, and representatives from all over Africa and the world community attended the ceremony.

According to him, the panel promoted inclusive governance, improved regional cooperation, and strengthened democratic institutions through productive discussion.

He reiterated that Nigeria’s participation in the session demonstrated its dedication to the African Union’s principles, especially in advancing institutional growth, economic integration, peace, security, and democratic governance.

“To promote Africa’s shared prosperity and sustainable development, the Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to collaborating with Member States and regional organizations,” he said. (NAN)
