An Atiku assistant queries the absence of a return date for Tinubu’s trip to Turkey.

The Presidency’s handling of information about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s current state visit to the Republic of Turkey has drawn criticism from Paul O. Ibe, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Special Assistant on Public Communication.

President Tinubu left Abuja on Sunday, January 26, 2026, for a multi-day diplomatic engagement in Turkey, Ibe said in a post on his official Facebook page on Monday. He pointed out that although the President’s departure date was confirmed by the Presidency in a statement released on January 25, neither the length of the visit nor the anticipated return date were mentioned.

Ibe claims that the official release only stated that President Tinubu will return “at the conclusion of the visit,” without going into greater detail about how long the trip would last.

The Atiku aide raised concerns about what he called a rising trend of the President traveling abroad without providing explicit return dates, implying that this behavior raises questions about public accountability and transparency.

Although the Presidency has not yet disclosed a comprehensive itinerary or schedule for the trip, President Tinubu’s visit to Turkey is anticipated to concentrate on bolstering diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the Republic of Turkey.
