9,000 Councilors support Tinubu and call LG Autonomy a “game changer.”

ABUJA: Citing the reinstatement of Local Government autonomy as a historic accomplishment for grassroots development, the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria has formally expressed its support for President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

The forum noted that the “Renewed Hope” agenda is now a reality in rural communities around the federation and characterized the current administration’s policies as transformational during a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

“As the closest arm of government to the people, councilors understand the aspirations of the citizens and see the direct impact of the President’s strategic reforms,” the conference, which also includes previous council members, highlighted.

The following individuals spoke on behalf of the forum: Hon. Hyacinth Horvel Turnoe, National Coordinator, ST/HT Grassroots Coordinators of Development; Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Rapheal, National Coordinator, Citizens Network for Peace and Development; Dr. Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, President, National Councillors Forum of Nigeria; and the councilor for Enenaezeraku Ward in Ohaozora Local Government of Ebonyi state.

With a strong nationwide network of 8,809 council members representing all 774 Local Government Areas and 176,836 polling places, the forum claimed to be one of the biggest and most powerful grassroots political organizations in the nation, with a presence felt from the most remote villages to urban centers.

As the administration’s greatest accomplishment, it notably highlighted the return of local government autonomy, calling it a paradigm shift in terms of accountability and funding.

“This move, combined with improved rural infrastructure and strategic reforms in agriculture, has laid a solid foundation for national prosperity,” the group claims.

They also praised the President’s efforts to improve intelligence cooperation and modernize the Armed Forces in order to bolster national security.

The councilors urged grassroots organizers and ward leaders to spread the word about the Tinubu administration to every Nigerian home, calling for a national mobilization.

They maintained that the President has shown the bravery and skill required to merit a second term in order to solidify his accomplishments.

Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Rapheal, National Coordinator of the Citizens Network for Peace and Development, urged Nigerians to give the National Assembly an opportunity to present the revised version of the Electoral Act.
