According to Naija News, the rumor about Burna Boy’s conversion to Islam first appeared on social media, causing a great deal of discussion and outrage among the award-winning artist’s admirers.
The discussion started when Burna Boy was heard saying “Alhamdulillah,” an Arabic phrase that Muslims frequently use to express “Praise be to God,” in a video that was posted on 𝕏 (previously Twitter) by Nigerian socialite and fashion enthusiast Rahman Jago.
The brief video went viral on the internet, prompting many viewers to wonder if the singer’s frequent use of Islamic terminology represented a formal shift in faith.
Fans speculated that Burna Boy may have secretly converted to Islam after pointing out that he frequently employed Arabic language in his songs and public appearances.
When asked about the development on 𝕏, former presidential advisor Bashir Ahmad offered his thoughts amid the mounting interest.
“Some people close to him said he converted to Islam, but there hasn’t been any official confirmation directly from him yet,” Ahmad said in response to a question.
His reaction seemed to imply that Burna Boy himself had not made a public statement, despite allegations coming from the artist’s acquaintances.
Rahman Jago, however, later returned to the internet debate and made a clear declaration regarding the singer’s religious beliefs.
