At Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, DHL Aviation unveiled two fully branded Boeing 737-400 aircraft, expanding its logistical capabilities in Nigeria.

The company said in a statement that the extra aviation capacity will cut transit times, increase delivery predictability, and expand DHL’s reach to help businesses throughout West Africa and beyond as part of its continued investment in SSA’s logistics infrastructure.

They said that this was done to satisfy the increasing demand from West African companies in a number of important industries, such as e-commerce, perishables, energy, and life sciences and healthcare.

“As trade expands across Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area, businesses are demanding predictable transit times and consistent delivery performance,” stated Anthony Beckley, VP Operations and Aviation at DHL Express SSA, in response to the news. By integrating the two specialized aircraft into DHL Aviation’s African aviation network, connectivity on vital commercial routes between Africa and Europe and Asia would be strengthened.

The company’s advertisements also mentioned how DHL’s investment in aircraft capacity supports the company’s larger goal of sustainable growth.

They claim that in order to support long-term environmental goals, the company is piloting renewable energy and alternative fuel projects throughout its facilities while continuing to develop digitalization through AI-enabled route optimization and digital customs solutions.

“With this latest investment, DHL Express reaffirms its position as the logistics partner of choice for businesses seeking to grow their presence in regional and global value chains,” stated Riaan Vorster, Senior Director of Aviation at DHL Aviation SSA.
