Mustapha Sule Lamido, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 candidate for governor of Jigawa State, has been given the go-ahead to run in the party’s primary before the general election in 2027.
The PDP screening committee in Abuja cleared Lamido on Thursday.
The party’s primary for governor is set for May 21, according to Naija News.
The only candidate vetted for the PDP governorship nomination in Jigawa State was Lamido.
He is now the party’s most likely candidate to run against the current governor, Umar Namadi of the All Progressives Congress, in the 2027 election thanks to his clearance.
Following the screening process, Lamido stated that his desire to improve Jigawa State was what motivated him to run for office once more.
He claimed that the state required intentional leadership that would better the political environment and attend to the concerns of common people.
Lamido also voiced alarm about the growing number of lawmakers defecting, claiming that this trend indicated a lack of ideological commitment on the part of some political actors.
According to the PDP chairman, younger politicians are committed to using their bravery, commitment, and people-focused leadership to transform the nation’s political system.
According to him, the PDP is the only opposition party with powerful ideals that can meet the needs of regular Nigerians.
He claimed that the party was still powerful in Jigawa and had the organizational framework necessary to do better in the upcoming election.
Lamido highlighted that in the state’s recent governorship race, the PDP received more than 400,000 votes.
He said that the Jigawa people were prepared for a more powerful opposition and a different course, and he was confident that the party would achieve an improved performance in 2027.
