Olusegun Mimiko, a former governor, leaves the PDP

Olusegun Mimiko, a former governor of Ondo State, has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Naija News, Mimiko informed the chairman of Ward 7 in the Ondo West Local Government Area of his decision in a letter dated April 10, 2026.

The former governor stated that he had been mainly absent from party activities lately and that it was vital to clarify his position due to growing suspicion about his political status.

With effect from April 10, 2026, I am submitting my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.

He declared, “I want to officially state that I am no longer a member of the PDP because I have been somewhat disengaged from party activities.”

Mimiko stressed that he made his choice “without animosity toward anyone.”

Eni Akinsola, the former chief press secretary for Mimiko, confirmed the situation by stating that the resignation letter had been sent, although he did not elaborate.

In other news, Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, accused politicians engaged in anti-party actions of being dishonest.

According to Naija News, Suswam stated in an interview with ARISE News on Monday that politicians should adopt distinct stances instead of trying to work across party lines.

“Anyone who feels that he wants to run against the current government and he’s in the APC and he’s going to attend a PDP meeting is, in my opinion, outright disqualified from even an attempt because he has no integrity,” he declared.

“You have to stand on something if you have integrity. You can’t rely on its integrity if you can stand on something while putting one leg in and one leg out.

Speaking on his choice to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), Suswam stated that it was a part of a larger political realignment motivated more by public interest and conviction than by self-interest.
