Peter Obi’s chances of winning the presidency have been questioned by Daniel Bwala, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s special assistant on policy communication.
He contended that Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, lacks the broad grassroots support required for a national election, according to Naija News.
In an interview with News Central TV, Bwala claimed that rather than a strong political structure throughout Nigeria, Obi’s power primarily derives from social media supporters known as the “Obidient” movement.
Additionally, he cited Obi’s outreach to religious audiences, arguing that his rhetoric portrayed the church as politically marginal.
Bwala claims that while this tactic might mobilize certain supporters, it does not provide the widespread backing required for presidential success.
Obi will have difficulties transitioning from social media fame to real political power on the ground, according to Bwala, who also stated that the former governor lacks the kind of local support necessary to win Aso Villa.
He suggested that Obi’s present strategy might restrict his reach outside particular groups and asked observers to take into account the fact that online enthusiasm does not always transfer into votes.
“The Obedient and Peter Obi’s followers are the tigers on social media,” he stated. The central business district that leads to Aso Villa will never be crossed by Peter Obi, hence he will never become president. Therefore, Peter Obi lacks grassroots support; instead, he went to the church with the narrative that the church is being disenfranchised and that it is time for the church to reclaim their nation.
