Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, met with Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, behind closed doors in Abuja on Thursday.
As Kwankwaso wraps up talks with the ADC leadership in anticipation of a potential defection to the opposition party, the meeting is thought to be a part of continuing conversations.
According to Naija News, the former governor of Kano State met with Aregbesola at his Abuja home before having separate discussions with Kano State ADC leaders.
In a statement on his official social media page, Kwankwaso confirmed the encounter and said it was friendly.
“This evening at my home in Abuja, it was a pleasure to receive my dear friend, His Excellency Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the ADC,” he wrote.
The gathering takes place a few days after Kwankwaso received a number of notable politicians, such as former governor of Anambra State Peter Obi and governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde.
He further said that, as part of more extensive political conversations, Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, recently paid him a visit in Kano.
There have been rumors that Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano, would join the ADC and run alongside Obi on a combined ticket.
