Barrister Tolu Babaleye, Ibikunle Tajudeen Baruwa’s attorney, has accused MC Oluomo, also known as Musiliu Akinsanya, of disobeying court orders.
He asserted that because President Bola Tinubu supported MC Oluomo, he was openly operating with impunity.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the attorney charged Tinubu with aiding MC Oluomo in his “illegal occupation” of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) presidency in defiance of a court decision that had already ousted him from office.
Despite a clear verdict acknowledging Baruwa as the genuine NURTW President, the lawyer voiced disgust over the ongoing disrespect for legal authority.
“In my experience as a lawyer, we would congratulate the person who wins as soon as we get a judgment, especially if it is the judgment of the last court because we can be sure it will be obeyed,” stated Babaleye.
However, this one has been really challenging. We have actually written about this to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). Regarding this, we have written to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). On this subject, we have written to numerous individuals. We even sent a letter to the National Security Advisor.
He claimed that MC Oluomo had disregarded an official invitation and revealed that attempts to involve security authorities had not had a tangible result.
“They (NSA) responded to our letter and invited MC Oluomo to Lagos, but his attorney showed up instead of him. He was given a return date, but when I spoke with the individuals, they told me he told them not to worry and that he wouldn’t be coming back. As of right now, we haven’t heard anything more about that letter.
He seems to be above the law. He added, “And the problem is that he has a father in Israel because he has been disclosing names with the presidency.”
The attorney added that MC Oluomo publicly stated that only the President could change his standing inside the organization during a meeting with the Minister of Labor.
“The Minister of Labor publicly stated at their meeting that only the Nigerian President has the authority to order him to leave his position.
“He will leave the office today if the President instructs him to do so.” “What sort of impunity is that?” he continued.
He claims that throughout the past year, Baruwa’s team has made multiple attempts to bring the issue to the President’s attention through media publications and petitions, but they have not received a response.
“We called on the President almost a year ago,” the attorney stated. We have published articles in numerous newspapers, such as The Nation, where we were informed that the President would read them if they were published. We posted it there, but we got no response.
“We don’t want to think that the President is unaware of this. Because everyone involved in this is bringing up the President’s name, claiming that he is their father in Israel and that he is the one who is making this unlawful. I don’t want to believe.
However, the President will need to demonstrate to us whether we are correct or they are. He ought to decide which of us is right.
