Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian striker, has promised Galatasaray president Dursun Ă–zbek that the team will still win the Super Lig title this season and has set his sights on a quick return to duty following arm surgery.
After suffering an injury during last week’s UEFA Champions League match at Anfield against Liverpool FC, the striker underwent surgery on Monday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul.
The 27-year-old was released on Tuesday after Galatasaray verified the treatment was effective. His recuperation is currently being monitored by club medical personnel, and early projections indicate that he won’t be able to return for about six weeks.
Although there is cautious optimism that he might return in time for the April 26 Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe, that timeframe could see him miss up to six games across domestic competitions.
The match appears to have the ability to determine the championship. With a game remaining, Galatasaray leads the table by four points, and Osimhen has stated his intention to be a key player.
Following his surgery, he reportedly promised club president Dursun Ă–zbek, “We will be champions, my president!” according to Turkish publication Forza Combom.
Osimhen might only play in the final two league games against Antalyaspor and Kasımpaşa if his recuperation takes longer than anticipated.
Additionally, he hopes to make a comeback in time to help Galatasaray advance in the Turkish Cup, where they will play Gençlerbirliği in the quarterfinals.
With 19 goals and seven assists in 29 games this season, Osimhen has been crucial to Galatasaray’s title challenge. Before the club left Europe, he contributed three assists and seven goals in ten Champions League games.
