Following her suspension due to the traditional council’s allegations of an unapproved visit by Nigerian TikToker Peller, Queen Ewaure of the Benin Kingdom has spoken out.
According to Naija News, Peller’s visit was criticized by the Benin council for being unapproved and a violation of palace decorum.
In addition, the council called Peller before a committee of chiefs and threatened to expel the Queen, who had welcomed Peller on behalf of the palace.
In a statement posted on Instagram on Thursday, Peller’s management stressed that the visit was legitimately started through formal procedures and was never meant to be disrespectful to Benin culture.
The statement claims that Peller’s team made a formal request to the palace before to the visit, which was accepted. However, they were informed that the Oba of Benin would not be present.
In a similar vein, the Queen verified that Peller’s visit to the Palace was formally approved in an Instagram post.
The Queen also published a letter with an acknowledgement stamp from the Benin Traditional Council, claiming that the dispute extends beyond Peller’s visit and that there are more problems going on behind closed doors than the public is currently aware of.
“Hello everyone, I hope I will be able to convince you all that Peller’s visit to the palace was authorized. Look at the stamp on this letter shows that it was approved by Benin traditional council, but they’re all lying on my head. However, I want you to know that this isn’t the main problem because there are other issues that are much bigger than what you all think.”
