The Labour Party dismisses the caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman.

After an internal examination of the party’s operations, the Labour Party’s National Executive Council disbanded the caretaker committee headed by Esther Nenadi Usman.

According to Naija News, the decision was made on March 17, 2026, during a virtual NEC meeting where members evaluated the committee’s operations and their effect on the party.

Abdulrahim Imam Chindo, the NEC forum secretary, signed a statement confirming the resolutions.

The council, which consists of elected state chairmen and their secretaries, claimed that since the committee’s founding, the party has suffered as a result of its actions.

At the same meeting, the council reaffirmed its support for Julius Abure’s National Working Committee and acknowledged him as the official national chairman.

The party’s national convention in March 2024 created the leadership under Abure, which was later confirmed by another NEC conference in November 2025 under the electoral body’s supervision.

Prior to the general elections in 2027, the council also instructed Abure to start the procedure that would result in the party’s primaries.

He was instructed to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission in accordance with the statutory schedule as soon as the party’s legal problems were settled.

Furthermore, Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party’s national secretary, were directed by the NEC to proceed with an appeal to the Court of Appeal.

The appeal seeks to reverse a ruling made by a Federal High Court earlier in January 2026.

The council further decided that the Nenadi-led caretaker committee’s previous notices to the electoral commission are no longer valid.

Following previous requests for both in-person and virtual meetings to discuss the party’s crisis, the meeting was called.
