Adewole Adebayo, a former presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has expressed reservations about Nigeria’s readiness for leadership.
According to Naija News, the lawmaker claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan was unprepared to govern the nation.
The statement was made by Adebayo during a recent interview on the Mic On Podcast, where he discussed the criteria he thinks should be used to choose Nigerian leaders.
The SDP chieftain stated during the conversation that Jonathan should not have held the position of president because he lacked the necessary training.
The former presidential candidate clarified that popularity and political backing are not enough to run a country like Nigeria.
He asserts that anyone hoping to lead the nation needs to have a thorough understanding of policy issues, strong administrative skills, and well-defined strategies for addressing national issues.
He declared, “Someone like Jonathan should not have been president; he was not qualified or ready for the job.”
Adebayo also discussed how political parties influence the caliber of leadership that emerges during elections.
Instead of only promoting well-liked candidates, he said parties should concentrate on internal procedures that enable competent and qualified people to become candidates.
In other news, rather than viewing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s rise as a heavenly gift for Nigerians, Adebayo has called it “a painful lesson from God.”
Speaking during a Ramadan Iftar hosted by the AAFAQ Foundation in Kano, Adebayo asked people to consider the country’s situation carefully and prioritize justice over discord.
