Iran Responds to Trump’s Remark About Selecting the Next Leader: “We Are An Independent Country”

Gholamreza Ahdavi Raja, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Nigeria, has chastised US President Donald Trump for saying he would be involved in choosing Iran’s leadership after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader, was killed in an attack on Saturday.

At a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Raja said that Iran would make its own decisions about its political future and leadership without outside intervention.

He was adamant that Iran would not permit outside interference in its internal affairs.

“The US constantly meddles in our internal affairs. We are a sovereign nation. He declared, “We will not allow the United States to meddle in our internal affairs.”

The ambassador’s statements came after Trump’s following the Supreme Leader’s death was confirmed.

Additionally, he asserted Iran’s right to self-defense by citing Article 51 of the Charter.

According to Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Islamic Republic of Iran is entitled to self-defense against military invasion. Iran firmly adheres to this legal and legitimate framework when implementing its defensive actions, he stated.

He described the attacks as blatant violations of international humanitarian law and emphasized civilian facilities, such as schools and hospitals, which he claimed were impacted.

Let me be clear: attacking children in a school is an obvious war crime, not a wartime mishap,” he declared.

He added that the strikes took place during diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States.

Iran was actively involved in diplomatic talks with the United States at the time of these strikes. However, in the midst of an ongoing diplomatic process, the United States once again decided to launch a military assault, he stated.

The ambassador stated that Iran would protect its sovereignty while stressing the country’s desire for regional peace and stability.

Iran is not a nation seeking conflict, but we are dedicated to protecting ourselves and will do everything in our power to do so. We want the area to be peaceful and stable,” he stated.
