Victor Boniface will not play again this season due to knee surgery, according to Werder Bremen.

Victor Boniface, a Nigerian attacker on loan, will not play again before the end of the season, according to Werder Bremen, ending his miserable stint.

After suffering a knee injury during training, 25-year-old Victor Boniface, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, has been out since December. Later, in January, he had surgery performed by famous physician Christian Fink in Innsbruck, Austria.

Despite Boniface’s recent return to limited training, Bremen has made it clear that a late-season comeback is not possible.

In an interview with the German publication DeichStube, Sporting director Peter Niemeyer gave the most recent update.

In Leverkusen, he is completing his recovery, and we are happy with every development. However, Niemeyer stated that it is still impossible to forecast when he would return to full fitness.

Any last hope that Boniface might make a comeback to strengthen Bremen’s attack in the final stretch is essentially dashed by the announcement.

The Super Eagles attacker has, however, made some strides. He posted a brief video of himself performing leg exercises in the gym on 𝕏 earlier this week, according to Naija News.

He captioned it, “Help me post this one too, I dey training,” in his usual cheerful manner. Supporters who were excited to see him back in action instantly sent encouraging remarks in response to the video.

Boniface has had a patchy tenure at Bremen. while making 11 Bundesliga appearances, he was unable to score while recording two assists. These games will now be his last contributions to the team this season.

His career has been going through a difficult time, which was made worse by the injury setback. owing to issues with his recuperation program, he was unable to play in Bremen’s January 2026 league match against Borussia Dortmund and had already missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) owing to injury.

Boniface has been open about the emotional toll of his hardships off the field. He acknowledged “putting on a fake smile for over a year now” in a social media post made during his recovery, and he went on to say, “Only God knows why all that is happening to me.”
