2027: Oyo PDP Says Makinde Is Open To Political Consultations

Ahead of the general election in 2027, Oyo State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that Governor Seyi Makinde is amenable to discussions with a range of political parties and personalities.

In response to a recent allegation made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that Makinde had consented to run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at a meeting in Minna, Niger State, this clarification was made.

Fayose had alleged that the closed-door meeting between Atiku, Makinde and former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, was part of a power deal excluding Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

In response to the development, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, the chairman of the Oyo State PDP, told the Leadership newspaper on Wednesday that Makinde is free to undertake consultations, especially in light of the changing political environment.

“This is about interest; it’s politics.” Our principal is willing to consult given the circumstances. In any political regime, that is common,” Ogungbenro stated.

However, he urged Fayose to refrain from bringing up Makinde in every political discussion, calling his comments speculative and superfluous.

“Fayose has been talking about our principal in every way possible. He said, “He ought to keep our principal alone.”

A media assistant who responded on condition of anonymity claimed he was not authorized to comment on Governor Makinde’s political actions, therefore attempts to elicit a straight response from the governor failed.

Ogungbenro, meanwhile, maintained that the people and the PDP in Oyo State would support the governor no matter where his political journey took him.

He said, “I want to say that the state PDP and, in fact, the people of the state will follow our principal wherever he goes.”
