The opposition party’s leadership crisis has gotten worse after Barry Johnson, a prominent member of the Julius Abure-led section of the Labour Party (LP), called Nenadi Usman, the party’s interim national chairman, an impostor.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Johnson made the comments in the midst of mounting tensions after Usman’s camp took control of the party’s National Secretariat following a recent court decision.
According to Naija News, competing factions have claimed control of the Labour Party based on different court rulings, further exposing the party’s severe divides.
Johnson charged Usman with breaking the law when he took over the party’s national secretariat.
“Instead of enforcing laws, we will demonstrate to them that Nigeria is ours,” he stated in an interview with Daily Trust.
The leader of the Labour Party maintained that the nation had progressed beyond what he called political impunity.
Nenadadi-Usman is a fake. Johnson said, “Nigeria has reached a point where it will not tolerate political criminality.
He maintained that the court decision Usman’s side referenced, which declared her chairperson, was faulty and at odds with other rulings.
Johnson pointed out that Julius Abure also received favorable decisions from the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, confirming his position as the party’s leader.
According to the Federal High Court’s ruling in Abuja, Nenadi-Usman is a chairman. It indicates that the judgment is incorrect,” he stated.
“Julius Abure, the chairman of the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, also had a judgment in these courts.”
He further claimed that Usman’s group had taken over the party secretariat by force.
Johnson claimed that Nenadi Usman was stealing and breaking and entering at our National Secretariat.
According to Naija News, the Labour Party has been involved in an internal leadership battle in recent months, with competing groups vying for political legitimacy and legal support in advance of the upcoming general elections.
