A former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Paul Taribo, Mrs. Theresa Oxford Nwabara, and more than 100 of their supporters have defected to the state’s Labour Party, representing the Ukwa East state constituency.
Taribo, who was until recently a well-known leader of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, spoke at the event in the Ikwueke East Ward. He explained that his decision to join the Labour Party was driven by the accomplishments of Governor Alex Otti and his wish to help the Governor win reelection in 2027.
In addition to promising to try to increase the Labour Party’s visibility and influence in Ikwueke East Ward and Ukwa East Council Area, the former APC leader vowed his allegiance to the party.
Taribo went on to say that he trusted Otti’s vision, leadership style, and developmental agenda, as well as that of Hon. Chibunna Akara, the chairman of the Ukwa East council.
“I joined the Labour Party after leaving my previous party, the APC, because I am inspired by Governor Alex Otti’s observable accomplishments and want to help him win reelection in 2027,” he stated. I am confident in the governor’s vision, leadership style, and developmental goals. I promise to support the Labour Party and help it expand in Ukwa East LGA and Ikwueke ward. These are the main elements that influenced my choice to support the Labour Party.
The former lawmaker is a valuable addition to the Labour Party, according to Ukwa East LGA Chairman Hon. Chibunna Akara, who also emphasized that the party is still a broad, inclusive platform that accepts all well-meaning people who are dedicated to service and development, regardless of their political background.
He said that the newcomers created a favorable atmosphere in the party and asked stakeholders and party officials to keep the momentum going by enlisting trustworthy and like-minded people before the general elections in 2027.
He promised that Taribo’s background, ability to lead, and political connections will help the Labour Party in Ukwa East expand and gain more votes.
Speaking as well, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing the Ukwa East State Constituency, expressed confidence that the governor’s reelection is certain due to the Labour Party’s increasing strength and unity in Ukwa East.
He went on to say that the people of Ukwa East would benefit from greater development and better welfare as a result of the governor’s ongoing leadership.
Obianyi congratulated the chairman for his proactive efforts in bringing high-value persons into the party and for collaborating with party leaders to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. He also praised the local Labour Party leadership for upholding an open door policy.
