Eric Chelle, the head coach of the Super Eagles, is anticipated to begin talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over a potential contract extension.
This action follows reports that the National Sports Commission (NSC) approved the start of negotiations.
Chelle, who assumed leadership of the Super Eagles in 2025, had stated that he was prepared to stay in that position. According to reports, the coach reaffirmed his affection for Nigerian football, stating that he initially “fell in love” with the Super Eagles in the 1990s and that his adoration for the squad began then.
The negotiations take place in the midst of rumors that Tunisia is interested in Chelle. The Tunisian Football Federation reportedly asked him about his availability, which raised concerns about his future with Nigeria. The NFF’s decision to start extension negotiations, however, seems to be an attempt to maintain stability and deter outside interest.
The Super Eagles have demonstrated tenacity and tactical discipline under Chelle’s leadership, traits that have won him recognition from football commentators and supporters alike.
Chelle’s squad just placed third in the African Cup of Nations, which was hosted in Morocco.
