Stanley Nwabali, the goalie for the Super Eagles, has left South African team Chippa United after four years, the team said on Thursday.
Despite signing a three-year contract extension in 2024, Nwabali asked to leave the team, according to a statement from Chippa United, which also stated it had agreed to release him.
It states, in part: “Chippa United Football Club publicly acknowledges that Stanley Nwabali has made a desire to leave the club. The team has decided to release him after giving it considerable thought.
“We want to express our gratitude to Stanley Nwabali for his years of dedication, professionalism, and devotion at Chippa United Football Club. “The club will always be grateful for his contribution,” the club stated.
In response to his departure, Nwabali posted a video and a heartfelt parting message on Instagram on Thursday, thanking his teammates, coaches, supporters, and the club’s management.
“It was more than a family❤️,” he wrote. To my wonderful teammates, beloved coaches, incredible supporters, and world-class chairman. I want to say thank you more than just goodbye as I stand here. I will always cherish the times we spent together, the hard-won triumphs, the failures we learned from, the tears and laughter.
“I depart with a lifetime of treasured memories and a heart full of appreciation. This is more than simply a farewell; it’s a thank you for all of the time you’ve spent with me. I may no longer wear the shirt, but this club will always hold a special place in my heart because of the things I’ve learnt here.
“Thank you for being such a father figure to me, club chairman ❤️. I am grateful for the privilege of being included in this narrative. I hope the upcoming seasons bring you all joy and success.
“Thank you—and good-bye. Until we cross paths again.
The 29-year-old made over 70 appearances for Chippa United since joining from Katsina United in the NPFL in 2022.
