According to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still a powerful political force in the nation and is not a nonprofit.
Wike said this on Monday night during the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
He counseled members to rebuild the party from the ward and voting unit levels, cautioning them against considering the PDP as a charity.
Discard the notion that PDP is a nonprofit. Despite its present difficulties, the PDP is still a powerful political force.
“PDP is really powerful. We have to make the most of what we have and keep going,” he said.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the minister gave a lengthy speech about the party’s internal problems, the current legal fights, and how to repair it in time for upcoming elections.
He emphasized that his only worries were the party’s national survival, stability, and prosperity.
In an attempt to secure the party’s survival and prosperity, Wike expressed a strong interest in all of the Oyo chapter’s endeavors.
While acknowledging the Board of Trustees’ (BoT) and the National Working Committee’s (NWC) appeals for peace, Wike advised party leaders and members to exercise caution, pointing out the continuous efforts to undermine the PDP.
Although he warned that opponents would not give up until the party was over, he was confident that such attempts would be unsuccessful.
“They won’t give up until they think you’re annihilated, but neither you nor I will be destroyed. “Let’s proceed,” he said.
The minister said he was confident that any attempt by what he called “vampires” to seize control of the party’s operations throughout the federation’s 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, would be unsuccessful.
He also advised PDP to rely on internal resources and expertise, pointing out that the party has strong legal and organizing professionals who can handle the current difficulties.
“We have a capable legal counsel. Our national organizing secretary is capable. Experience counts. The outcomes will speak for themselves when we pool our combined experience,” he said.
Wike asked NEC members to stay dedicated to enhancing the party as Nigeria’s major opposition platform and thanked them for attending the meeting at such short notice.
He stated that the party was now awaiting explicit instructions from the caretaker committee, specifically about the conduct of the past due congresses, which he referred to as “critical steps” in order to organize a legitimate national convention. (NAN)
